Weather & seasons
Changing conditions affect exposure, work, plants and fishing.
A changing pattern
Weather is generated as a semi-random sequence of plausible transitions, weighted by the season. It is not a fixed calendar of predetermined weather. Warm sunshine can move through temperate cloud and colder rain before snow; abrupt hot-to-blizzard jumps are avoided.
The weather indicator remains visible near crime safety. Open it to read the current effects. The indoors/outdoors indicator tells you whether your character is exposed. Rain, water ripples, snow and colour shifts show conditions in the world.
Current weather types
| Weather | Temperature | Crop growth | Fish activity |
|---|---|---|---|
| Warm rain | Warm | 1.15× | 1.15× |
| Sunny and dry | Warm | 0.9× | 0.8× |
| Cloudy and temperate | Temperate | 1× | 1× |
| Cold rain | Cold | 0.65× | 0.95× |
| Very cold rain | Very cold | 0.25× | 0.55× |
| Cold and sunny | Cold | 0.65× | 0.85× |
| Cold and cloudy | Cold | 0.6× | 0.9× |
| Light snow · cold | Cold | 0.5× | 0.8× |
| Light snow · very cold | Very cold | 0.2× | 0.5× |
| Heavy snow · cold | Cold | 0.35× | 0.65× |
| Heavy snow · very cold | Very cold | 0.1× | 0.4× |
| Blizzard · extreme cold | Extreme cold | 0× | 0.2× |
The growth and fish values are baseline multipliers. Crop shelter, moisture, dormancy and species needs still apply. Fish activity affects bite timing and replenishment, while each fish also has its own temperature preference.
Heat and cold
Sunny, dry weather makes exposed characters sweat and adds 10% to partial mana costs outdoors. An action that consumes the entire mana pool still consumes exactly the full pool; it never requires 110% mana.
Very cold weather causes 0.25 health damage per second outdoors. Extreme cold causes 1 per second. Normal health recovery still applies, so the net change can differ. Shelter prevents this exposure damage.
A body held in the world by combat or murder restrictions remains exposed after the connection closes. A safely logged-out character does not take outdoor weather damage.
Rain and growing
Rain waters outdoor crops automatically, including while their owners are away. Indoor crops need another water supply. Severe cold slows or stops growth; the plant's tolerance and shelter affect how well it survives. Sunny warmth increases drying, while dormant plants lose water more slowly.
Recent climate matters too
The immediate weather changes current work and exposure. Natural plant establishment and wildlife support also consider the time-weighted weather of the previous 30 days, alongside terrain and season. This means a long wet period can continue influencing the wilderness after the sky clears.
Fishing, wildlife, crop care and foraging explain these effects in more detail.
