Crafting & quality

Select ingredients, use stations, inspect quality and turn materials into useful goods.

Find a recipe and station

Open Crafting and choose a skill from the left. Each recipe shows its level, ingredients, output and required workplace. The recipe catalogue links every ingredient and result to its item page. A hand recipe needs no station; other work needs the correct accessible station nearby.

All production skills have level-one work. Tanning starts with preparing hides and Chemistry with drying or grinding herbs; those preparations feed later recipes. More complex work requires higher skill, even when you already possess its ingredients.

Choose your ingredients

Select which held stacks to use, especially when their quality differs. Ingredients are reserved for the accepted job. Finishing creates the outputs once; cancellation returns the reserved materials rather than duplicating them. Permission to enter a house and permission to use its stations are separate.

Stay in reach and keep the required access and fuel. Crafting progress remains visible while you inspect an ingredient. Starting the same action repeatedly does not bypass the work time.

Quality, condition and mass

Quality is recorded on the actual item, not averaged away because two items share a name. Separate quality or other incompatible properties keep separate stacks. Splitting, moving or storing a stack preserves its recorded values. Condition is separate from quality: a well-made item can still be worn or spoiled.

Some recipes preserve source quality, such as dividing a fish. Others combine ingredient qualities or include the artisan's skill contribution. Recipe pages state the applicable rule. Weighted ingredients use their consumed mass; a fuel component can contribute no quality when the recipe specifies that.

Variable yields are retained. Filleting follows the fish's recorded meat yield and keeps remaining mass in heads or trimmings. Smelting certain ores follows their recorded recovery and mass, rounding output to whole bars. A baseline quantity is not a guarantee that every source lot yields exactly the same result.

Inspection and certificates

Personal assessment gives the inspecting character an estimate; it is not a public certificate. Better appraisal narrows the estimate. Full appraisal consumes the full mana pool and can reveal eligible intrinsic properties when the appraiser is competent enough. A certificate provides public verification for the item's current revision.

Material changes can require new certification. Reading an item name or moving it between containers does not identify hidden quality. For an NPC certification, approve a maximum charge; the actual completed fee is charged without revealing an unappraised quality band through the initial quote.

Fuel and materials

Ordinary stoves consume split firewood. Biofuel stoves consume ethanol; they support stove recipes and do not receive an automatic speed bonus simply for being upgraded. Ethanol also powers supported lamps. Engineering can turn a stove into a biofuel stove.

Crop processing provides fermentable materials and fuel, while rubber processing supports construction and other production chains. Follow the actual linked recipes for ingredients and workstations. Generators are a future use, not a currently available device.

Repair your equipment

Weapons, tools and protective equipment wear through relevant active use. Nonperishable equipment does not lose condition merely because it is sitting in storage. A missed projectile still used its weapon, while rejected attacks or cancelled preparation do not count as a completed release.

Repairable item pages list the repair skill and station. Bring repair materials, select the item and finish useful workshop work. Repair restores condition while retaining the item's quality and original production history; cancelling returns the reserved item and materials. A fully repaired item does not provide endless repair practice.
