Foraging, trees & mining

Find seasonal food and materials, inspect the wilderness and harvest shared resources.

A living wilderness

Trees, herbs, berries, mushrooms and other forage can establish on suitable land throughout the world. They are not a fixed quota of identical harvest sites. Ground type, habitat, the current season and the time-weighted recent weather determine the chance for each species.

Nearby trees reduce the chance of another tree establishing, with the effect easing over distance. Water, roads, structures and unsuitable or reserved ground prevent inappropriate growth. A wet woodland and a dry shore therefore support different plants even in the same season.

What is in season?

The harvestable catalogue includes wild greens, flowers, fruit, nuts and mushrooms. Each page identifies its seasons, output and habitat where defined. Some plants survive between yields; short-lived forage may disappear after its lifetime or productive window.

Weather acts in two ways: recent climate affects establishment, and current conditions can affect the plant's growth and yield. A listed season is an opportunity, not a guarantee that every suitable tile contains the plant.

Inspect the wilderness

Forestry inspect mode temporarily makes clues and edible forage easier to notice. Tracks and droppings reflect nearby animal populations and the ground and season. Mushrooms and other edible plants are highlighted while inspection is active. The effect lasts about 20 seconds; it does not reveal the entire world.

Trees and deposits

Starter broadleaf trees and later conifers have their own skill requirements in Skills → Progression. Use a suitable tool, finish the action and collect the yield. Felled trees leave stumps and return through young stages on their growth schedules.

Ore and loose stone follow terrain and geology rather than rain or season. Mining sites and cave deposits have their own tools, skill gates and recovery. Do not expect a rainy month to create metal ore in a meadow.

Shared resources

A gathering claim belongs to the player whose start was accepted first. That player must also finish valid work to receive the yield. Two players cannot both harvest the same reserved yield. Moving away, interruption or losing a requirement can cancel the claim; starting an action alone does not earn the result.

Summer bees

Mature natural trees can develop wild bee colonies during summer. You may gather wild honey or collect the colony for a crafted hive. Honey gathering trains Animal Production; colony capture uses Animal Companionship. Capturing removes the wild nest and begins the ordinary owned-colony care schedule.

Rain and cold reduce bee activity, while snow and severe cold stop foraging. Wild colonies do not produce through winter. See animals and bees before carrying a colony away.
